Yes, it's true.
Why? That 12MP camera plus 16GB memory (plus a 16GB microSD card!). And the HDMI port and the USB OTG. And Symbian^3.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-48545946178640970812010-12-11T14:23:00.001+01:002010-12-11T14:25:19.278+01:00Samsung Omnia 7Ok, after a long period of silence, and using a HTC HD2 and an Android Milestone, I finally stepped over to Windows Phone 7! Yes, now my main device will be the Samsung Omnia 7.
Stay tuned for more info.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-38872837983444192202009-04-29T13:14:00.003+02:002009-04-29T14:54:13.226+02:00HTC Touch HD in da house!Yes, I finally did it! I bought a HTC Touch HD, a beast of a Windows Mobile device. But why?
I admit, I really like the Nokia 5800 Musci Express, which I've been using for the past three months, day and night. But slowly but surely I began to miss the WM operating system, which is so tweakable, and so easy to use (for me). So, when the Youch Diamond 2 was released, I began to think about going back to WM. The TD2 is a very good device, with everything on board to keep you happy for a long time. But, when I did take a good look at the device, I decided it wasn't that different from a TD, or, for that matter, the Nokia 5800.
Then, on a wednesday evening, I went to the Mediamarkt, and could compare several devices, like the Touch HD, the Diamond 2 and the Touch Cruise 2. I was immediately blown away by the screen of the Touch HD! Wow. And the TF3D performed very, very good.
But to be honest, the TD2 was also a very nice device. Still, I really liked the Touch HD with its 3,8" 800x4800 screen. The decision was made...
The next day I ordered it for 509 euro and got it on friday the 24th of april.

First impressions
- Again, the screen blows you away: gorgious!
- the device feel very sturdy, no creeking. That makes a world of differences with the Nokia 5800, which has a plastic feel and poor build quality.
- TF3D runs smoothly, now you can turn off or replace the tabs (I removed the stocks tab, don't need that).
- I read about issues with TomTom 6, that would not work. So I installed Route 66 Navigator 7 (yes, quite outdated) and it worked like a charm. So I have navigation throughout Europe on my HD.
Note: Nokia Maps is free and covers about the whole world. I installed it locally, so didn't need an online connection to use the maps. But... I really did not like the license policy of Nokia. I tried navigation for a month, it was ok, but I think the costs for navigation are way to high. For 90 or 100 euros I can buy navigation across Europe which I can use for many years. No map updates, but no navigation fees too.
- all the software I installed (memmaid, total commander. eWallet, listpro etc) works without any problems.
- battery duration cannot match that of the Nokia 5800, but is not as bad as the original battery of the Diamond. I think you can compare it to the extended battery of the TD. You can make it through one day, that's all I'm asking for.
- haptic feedback. I like it on the Nokia, I like it on the HD.
- bigger screen = bigger icons and list items = finger friendly.
- MicroSD instead of fixed 4GB (on TD), and, like the Nokia, it comes with an 8GB MicroSD card.
- better on/off button than the TD, but I really miss the on/off switch of the Nokia!
- 3.5mm headphone jack. No more ExtUSB hassle. Just plugin your favorite headphone and you're done.
- 5MP camera. No flash. Nice pictures, but then again: if you want quality pictures, use a real digital camera. No dedicated shutter button, which is bad. But tap on the screen to specify where the focus must be set.
- speaker: much louder than on the TD, but not as loud as on the Nokia.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-25912008679619203202009-03-03T13:23:00.002+01:002009-03-03T13:33:55.965+01:00Nokia 5800 defects?!?It seems that the first serie of Nokia 5800 was flawed with a bad earspeaker. The people from MobileReview have discovered this issue, read here.
Lucky though, the new generation (from end january) does not have this issue, plus, Nokia admits the problem. So, if you have an issue with your 5800, you can go to a Nokia Care Point and they will repair it cost free. This also applies to the so called 'grey import'.
My Nokia 5800 was legally bought in the Netherlands, but it turns out, it was imported from Germany. This is 'grey import'. It really doesn't matter though, because the device language is 'Dutch' and I have full warranty by Dutch law. So if I encounter this issue, or any other problem, I will have it fixed under warranty.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-57134479183877254032009-02-11T19:38:00.002+01:002009-02-11T19:48:50.096+01:00New firmware Nokia 5800Yes, new firmware! Version 20.0.012. Installation over-the-air (OTA) went smooth, I didn't need to reboot or hard-reset. So far I feel there's not that much changed. Let's hope this version of the firmware is less buggy - although don't have any problems. Others seem to have issues with the new update. See here for more information about the 5800.

Oh yeah, yesterday I bought a brand new Ultra Clear Screen Protector for Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, on screenprotector.nl for 9 euro. I looks good (you hardly see it's there) and it protects the screen from dirt and scratches.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-70341501308490188552009-02-04T13:22:00.002+01:002009-02-04T13:41:51.170+01:00Nokia 5800 XpressMusic IssuesI have discovered some issues with the 5800 and Nokia software. Most of them are fixed though... I have firmware v11.0.008 and Dutch language.

- single tap vs. double tap: you get used to it, so not really an issue

- unable to install extra software, you get a license expired message: I've spend hours searching for a solution for this problem. Nokia Support told me to change the date back to 2008 or 2007, but that didn't work. So finally I found a solution which worked for me:
(1) backup your device
(2) dial *#7370# code and enter lock code ‘12345'. The device will HARD reset, so you lose everything (contacts, calendar, settings etc)
(3) start the device, and restore the backup.
After this was done, I could install GoogleMaps and other extra software, as it should be!

- sync problems between Windows PC and the 5800. I installed the software on the mini DVD, which include the Ovi Suite. Unfortenately, I could not get it to work. So finally I installed the latest Nokia PC suite. Using that software I was able to sync my Outlook contacts and calendar items, make backups and add music.

- adding music was clumsy (via the PC suite). So I ended up attaching the 5800 as USB drive, and then copying the music to the (preinstalled!) 8GB microSD card. Easy and you don't need all that bullshit software on your pc.

- testing the Nokia Maps app is not possible since I cannot get a proper license. That is, I have a license for Germany/Austria but not for The Netherlands. Although I bought the device in Holland, it comes from Germany I guess. So, it seems impossible to change the license to my country. If anyone knows a workaround? The only solution is to wait for the official release, but even Nokia Netherlands does not known when that is.

- not an issue but...every time I press on the screen a little vibration is felt. You can turn this off, but now you feel you have pressed something. Strangely though, I sometimes think there's something loose in the device because of this buzz.
It's all a matter of getting used to.

Conclusion
Now that I'm able to install extra software, have all my contact etc on my device plus all my music and some movies (wmv format) I'm feeling ok. The Symbian OS feels reliable and is easy to use. In the next weeks I'll do more test and see how it performs as my day to day device.Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-27883191113721334372009-02-04T13:02:00.003+01:002009-02-04T13:22:21.055+01:00Nokia 5800 XpressMusicSo here it is, the brand new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The first S60 touch screen device!
I've been playing around with it for a few days, and I'm impressed. As you may know, I have been using PDA's and smartphones for years now (started in 1998 up today) so I know all about these clever devices. My latest touch device was the best so far, the HTC Touch Diamond. But now there's a new kid on the block. How about it?

Here are my thought...

I know touch, but I don't know Symbian. Never used it, so as a newby, how does it work out of the box? Well, to be honest, easy. First of all, this is a port from standard S60 to touch S60 (5th edition), aimed at the touch user, and you can feel it. Buttons and option are big and fingerfriendly. Every press results in a little buzz (can be turned off) and pressing the screen is easy. It is a touchscreen, so can also use a stylus.
All in all, navigation around is easy and reasonably logical, although you have to get used to the fact that some settings are hidden at different places.
Main drawback (but after a while you get used to it): normally you have to tap once to activate something, but in lists you must double tap. So it happens that you tap, wait, and then tap again to get something done. Luckily, the navigation is speedy, better than the Diamond (WinMo in general).
Other drawback: I cannot install any software, so, no GoogleMaps, no QuickOffice etc. I'm looking for a solution.
The GPS works ok, you get a quick fix with Nokia Maps. The media stuff is alright, the music player works fine, like the video's and images.

In the next blog I talk about the problems...Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-77086709309671512862008-03-07T11:16:00.006+01:002008-11-13T18:57:11.160+01:00Extended Battery Real Live UseI have used the extended battery for the Everun since the beginning of february 2008, so around a month of real use.

The Good...
When you put the Everun in "Power Saving" mode (Speed) and Wifi/BT off, the Expwin reports around 11 hours 42 minutes of working time, which is incredibly! Not the 12-13 hours advertised, but we all know that specs from manufactories are a little over the top.
So you can do a lot of eBook reading or working with documents.

When you switch on Wifi ("normal" mode) and the processor to "auto", the predicted using time drops to about 9 hours 43 mins, which is still a lot.
Still, you have to remember that when actually using the device, and the processor is going to work hard, the indicated usage time will decrease.

The Bad...
The device feels real heavy with the extended battery, up to an "uncomfortable" level. You really have to get used to the new weight. Still, I have no problems keeping the device in my hand for several hours. Holding the device in portrait mode is more comfortable than in landscape position.

The Ugly...
The battery looks...well, uh, ugly. About 5 millimeters stick out of the device. The Everun never has been a "sexy" looking device, but with the extended battery the "nice" look is definitely gone.

Conclusion
If you want more battery power that will get you through the day, you definitely gonna like this extended battery. No more worries about low power messages, which was the main reason for me to buy one. Ofcourse you have to live by the drawbacks: weight and (lack of) looks.

I, for sure, am not going back to the standard battery!Harmenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12899920685193880456noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-34559954539928737102008-01-31T19:16:00.000+01:002008-11-13T18:57:11.301+01:00Just ordered the extended battery for the Everun!Although not cheap (130 euro's incl. tax + 30 euro's shipping), I just ordered the Everun's extended battery. The standard battery gives you about 3-4 hours wifi on (and browsing about), and about 5 hours working time without wifi. That's a lot for a umpc. But what I don't like is that I still have to be carefull using the device 'on the move' and away from a charger.
So, the extended battery will give me at least 8 hours working time, enough to use it all day at work (next to my work notebook) without worrying about the battery.

Specs: Everun Large Battery, 4000 mAh LI-ION, 11-12 hours
Shop: www.mobilx.eu

As you can see on the picture, the Everun gets about 0,5 mm thicker. There's also a video on YouTube showing the increased thickness. That's the trade off for more power.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-40605433973775796472007-11-19T21:22:00.000+01:002008-11-13T18:57:11.642+01:00DesktopJust a picture of my current desktop. Too busy, I know, that's everybody's excuse...

Yes, I still use the Everun on a daily base. The last weeks I have tested the Everun as car navigation tool. I had an old car holder, for an HP Jornada 710 (remember?), so I could put the Everun in a comfortable place in the car.
For navigation on my PDA's I use mainly Route66, sometimes TomTom, and for geocaching I use Teletype. Fortenately, the latter can also be installed on a normal PC, and thus now runs on my Everun. And you've got a hell of a big screen there. The software runs in 2D and 3D, you can route from address to address or waypoint, and you get voice instructions where to go.

Unfortenately, on a pc -and thus the Everun- the buttons and menu's are very small. It's very had to control the software with you fingers. You need a styles for that, and using a styles in a moving car is very tricky, let alone dangerous.
Since I don't have a car charger, I have to trust the Everun's battery. In general, I travel for about 2,5 hours. When I also use the Everun as a musicplayer, the battery is almost flat at the end of the day. Using the Everun solely for navigation gives me about an hour left.

Anyway, I like using the Everun as car navigation. It was a real shock to realize that much of the notebook's work is now done by my Everun, sitting on the couch watching TV with half 'n eye.
FIE (full internet experience) and e-mail makes much of my private workload. Work I can do easily with the Everun. So, my notebook is only used to type a lot of text (like this blog), gaming, programming and Office stuff (Word/Excel).
So, do not throw away you notebook when you've got an UMPC, but know that a lot of work can be done with the umpc. Have fun!Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-20942484496375747532007-09-15T20:22:00.000+02:002007-09-15T20:29:39.014+02:00Everun on GPRSLast week I enjoyed a week of vacation. A very good time to test the Everun. All I had (gadget wise) with me was the Everun and a PocketPC phone (HP hw6915). There was no wifi, so I had to use bluetooth to connect the Everun to the PPC and use the latter as a modem. It worked! Since I only have gprs speed, browsing is not as fast as at home. But it works. And is also workable. For light browsing (forget about large images or YouTube vids) and e-mail it's fine.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-75397465752400003662007-08-20T09:35:00.000+02:002007-08-20T10:07:19.107+02:00How I use the EverunIt's now three weeks after I got hold of the Everun. Slowly I'm beginning to get used to the UMPC concept. As a PDA user I really had to work out a way of combining the two. In my previous blog I talked about the pro's and con's of the pda and the umpc. I use the pda/phone less, and the Everun more, but -at this moment- not so intensive as I probably could. So, what am I doing with this new piece of technology?
- internet tablet in the house: everywhere in my appartment I can enjoy my WiFi connection, but I actually use the Everun the most sitting on the couche, while one eye is pointed at the TV, the other is focussed on the FireFox browser on the Everun.
- on the move: reading an ebook. This works great! I use the Mobireader, and combined with the large screen it is very very usefull.
- on the move: listening to music. Multitasking is not a problem for the Everun, though when you are running something that consumes processing power, like Skype, the system will go slow. But browsing/ebook reading and listening to music is a good combination. The GOM player does it's job.
- on the move: watching movies. Haven't done that a lot, but it can be done. Again, the GOM player handles wmv, divx, xvid and DVD files without any problem, so you can leave the dedicated 'personal media players' like the Archos at home. I do have an Archos GMini 500 with 80gig and use it to backup all my media files and software.
- on the move: typing some small documents, working with data in Excel. Writing an email every now and then. The keyboard is great for little typing, like URL's, password, an email or something like that. I have also tried some on-screen keyboards, like IlliumSoft's Inscribe (which is free). These on-screen kb's do not make me happy, but they get the job done. The one thing I don't like about the Inscibe kb is the lack of visible response when pressing a key. Was that so hard to do? Anyway, it's great being able to open a Word document and read it the way it was intended, without being slimmed down by Pocket Word.

That's about it, and I know, there are more ways to use the Everun, like gaming etc, but so far I can entertain myself during the daily commute, which, sometimes, should be longer because you can do only that much in 30 mins.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-86706972142275785132007-08-15T20:30:00.000+02:002007-08-15T22:03:14.181+02:00Where the smartphone ends......and the UMPC takes over.
For years now I'm a PDA/PocketPC(with phone) user. Have had two Palms pda's, a Casio PPC, an Acer n10, a HP Jornada HandheldPC, a HP rx3715, a Palm Treo 650 (still using), a T-Mobile Vario (still using) and now my main device is the HP hw6915; with keyboard and nice working GPS. And I'm always connected...so no complaints. I am a one-piece man, I like devices that do it all: phone, PIM, gps, email and internet, entertainment (games, music and multimedia).
At least, I was.
But now I have an Everun UMPC (yes, I'd call it an umpc) and things have changed. I use my smartphone less and less for browsing or reading or entertainment. (And for the record: I use my laptop also less; with the Everun I browse the internet and read my email on the couch).
The Everun has taken over much of the pda's work, at least when I'm commuting. In the train it's hard to do some work, but reading an ebook and listening to music is great. Something I could do on my pda, but with the small screen it's not such a pleasure. Combined with a BT phone or using a wifi hotspot I can have the full internet experience. A PDA can't do that.
Still, there is not so much between how I use my pda and how I use the Everun. Both have there (dis)advantages:

PDA:
+ small, light
+ gprs/gsm connection, always on-line
+ instant-on, stable, no hard-disk
+ BT, wifi, multimedia, internet, email
+ battery last for at least a day
- small screen
- not a full internet experience (browser is limited)
- OS is slimmed down, you need special programs for the Windows Mobile platform
- Wifi doesn't work with all hotspots, like the once with wpa2-psk protection
- not much storage memory, max. 2 gig/4 gig.

Everun:
+ large screen
+ full OS, can run a lot of apps you also have on your laptop or pc
+ large storage room (30 gig or more)
+ set up wifi is easy
+ full internet experience (IE or FireFox, incl. YouTube vids)
- large and clumsy (need a girly bag to carry it)
- hard-disk is always risky on a mobile device
- no cellular capacity (at least on this model)
- not instant-on, you have to wait 5-10 seconds until Windows has started
- battery last only 3 to 4 hours with Wifi on

So, I ask myself, has the Everun an edge? It's large, has no cellphone build in, not instant-on. Why not stick with the pda?
I think the advantage of the Everun lies in its OS, which enables it to be used as a 'normal' computer, with all the productive apps (Office XP, FireFox) as well as all the multimedia capacities. You can do fun and productivity better, much better than a pda. I think that's the power of the Everun, and a lot of other UMPC's.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-74759951501177266962007-08-14T09:21:00.000+02:002007-08-14T09:29:48.559+02:00Everun as eBook readerAs Steve from UMPCportal.com earlier reported, reading ebooks on the Everun works very good. I installed the Mobireader (for Windows), bought an ebook and started reading. The font is large enough to read for long periods without eye strain, and when keeping the device in portrait mode you can read while holding the device in just one hand. Start the GOM player for some nice background music and you can finally enjoy the journey to work.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-10543771515683502832007-08-12T21:57:00.000+02:002007-08-14T09:20:34.809+02:00Everun BT DUNYes it works!

After I got wifi working, which was very easy, I thought it was about time to try BT. I setup a pairing with a BT phone, a HP hw6915 smartphone. Then I made a dial-up connection. That's it, it worked. Yes of course it's slow since it's a GPRS connection, but it works. It's useable for email downloading and some light internet browsing.
So, when there's no wifi hotspot around you stil have a way to connect to the internet and enjoy the full internet experience!

Update 13-8-2007: I tried to connect when I was in the train to work, but no-go. I struggled for at least 20 minutes to get it working. The bad thing is that once your phone is connected you can put it away in a pocket, but during the pair and DUN-enabling you have to confirm a few things, which is quite annoying. Anyway, I'll try again.Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-51916862837520971792007-08-12T12:52:00.000+02:002008-11-13T18:57:12.431+01:00Blast from the pastEverun besides Jornada

I thought it would be nice to compare the Everun with my old HP Jornada HandheldPC. Although the Everun is smaller, it has more power under the hood. But the Jornada was not a bad device at all. It came with a lot of software, like (stripped down versions of) Word, Excel, PPT and you could even manage some small Access databases. The screen has a resolution of 640 x 240, the OS is HandheldPC 2000.
Microsoft abandoned the HandheldPC platform in favor of the touchscreen-only PocketPC, and that evolved into Windows Mobile 6 today. But these days, more and more PPC's are seeing the light of day, having a qwerty keyboard. And the HTC Advantage 7500/7501 is getting close to an umpc with it's large screen (640 x 480) and keyboard. It looks like high-end PocketPC's are growing into low-end umpc's. Still, I think a device running software intended for small devices, like Windows Mobile or Symbian, is not a umpc.

Harmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12349225116593818761noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7032260798276225616.post-63380157892507649462007-08-09T18:39:00.000+02:002007-08-09T19:54:23.439+02:00Everun first impressionsSince I'm a PDA user for many years, I'll be looking at the Everun from that perspective.

Hardware
The device feels sturdy, but a little heavy. The buttons on the device are small but usable. The qwerty keyboard is very handy, and so is the autototate function. The back of the device contains the battery. It's not easy to remove the battery, I had to use a piece of plastic. And you must remove the battery in order to remove a piece of plastic that's on the contactpoints. Also, putting the battery back needs al lot of pressure.
This Everun version is the Lite one, which has the Geode LX800 500Mhz processor, 512Mb ram, 30Gig HD, Wifi, BT and the 4,8 inch screen. One odd thing though, when I startup the device, it says "Geode GX-MMX 600Mhz". I think this is some software thingy, because Windows say its running 498Mhz with 384Mb of ram.
Talking about Windows, it runs Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. At this stage, XP is very snappy.

Keyboard
It's small, but I use a Treo and a HP hw6915 keyboard, so I can say it's working good. Even my big fingers can press the right button. The keyboard works in all screen rotations, but is best suited when you hold the device in portrait mode. You're definitely not going to write novels on this keyboard, but for emails, URL's, passwords and IM it's very handy. No need to use the stylish. Ofcourse there's a learning curve, and the spacebar is a spacebutton, which is not handy.

Keys
There are a lot of keys besides the keyboard. An 8-way rocker to navigate through menu's (but lacks a click option to confirm a selection), 12 function keys, 2 groups of Shift-Fn-Alt-Control, left and right mouseclick buttons, up and down scroll buttons, screen size button and some more. You really have to read the manual to understand the options and use of all the buttons.

Optical mousepointer
One great thing on the Everun is the optical mousepointer. You can move your thumb over it and this controls the mouse movement on the screen. When you press the Fn (function) key and move over the optical mousepointer, you get a scroll function. Very, very handy when browsing. The pointer is clickable, so you can move the mouse and click it with one finger.

Screen
The screen is very clear, but feels a little rough. It's touch-sensitive, so you can control the device using the stylus (or finger). I have no idea how scratch-proof it is, so always be carefull.
The default size of the screen is 800x480 pixels, but you can change between 800x600, 1024x576, 1024x612, 1024x768 and 640x480. The higher the resolution, the smaller everything gets. I really had to get used to the small text and icons on this device, compared to a PocketPC. The benefit is that when browsing you get al lot more info on the screen than using a pda. So far (1 week use) I have only used the default screenresolution.
Changing between resolution takes a second or so, no large delays there.

Autorotate
The great thing of the Everun is the autorotate function. It works like this. Say you hold the device in landschape mode. You must type a password, so you rotate the device in portrait mode, to input some text. The device recognizes the change, and the screen is also changed into portrait mode. No need to press any button. And yes, you can turn this function off if you don't like it. The rotation is snappy, it takes about a 2 seconds for Windows to change.

Batterylife
Everun states that you can get 6 to 7 hours of batterylife, but with WiFi on the battery drains much faster. 3 or 4 hours at most. But compare that to other UMPC's...some of them have just 2 hours working time. Batterylife is one great benefit of the Everun, and one of the reasons to buy this device instead of, e.g. an Adapt MX1200 with Vista.

Software
The Everun has Windows XP with SP2. The GOM player was preinstalled, which is very nice. Since this is a computer, you can install a lot of Windows software. But remember, you've got limited processor power and memory. So far I installed:
- Windows Office XP 2003 (Word, Excel, PPT, Access, Outlook)
- FireFox 2
- Kaspersky Anti Virus (yes that works and does not seem to slow down the device)
- MapInfo Professional (geographical information software, much lighter than ArcView)
- Total Commander
- PaintShopPro 5 (old but still very usable)
- Skype. As reported earlier by Steve/Chippy, it works but the processor runs at 100% all the time. So I uninstalled it.

The GOM player is very usefull. It plays MP3 files, but also Divx, XVid and WMV files, and VOB (DVD) files to. Although I had to install some extra codecs for the latter. Surprisingly, a 500Mb wmv file ran choppy in Windows Media Player, but ran smootly in the GOM player.

Not so good
There is no SD card slot, so you must use a cardreader using the only USB port. The second miniUSB is only to connect the Everun to an external PC. I'd rather have seen a second USB port. The battery is hard to replace, and there are a lot of openings in which dust can enter the device. The screen is always vunerable, so protect it. The device is not really pocketable, and has a harddrive, so carry the device in a bag.
Holding the device in one hand gets uncomfortable after a while, because it's feels heavy (compared to a pda, it's lite when you compare it to a laptop). And the device gets hot after using it for a few hours.

Use
Why did I buy this device? I was looking around for a simple, small and lite notebook to use during trips and holidays. Then I came across the UMPC platform, which is still in it's childhood. The geek in me was excited. These devices seem to be positioned between a pda and a laptop. After looking around on the internet, and watching about every umpc movie on YouTube, I finally had to decide between the Adapt MX1200 and the Everun. Although the mx1200 looked really nice, with an SD slot and camera, it also ran Vista and had a batterylife of about 2,5 hours. The Everun lacks SD, but runs for 4 or 5 hours, and uses Windows XP, which has proven to be a stable platform. The screen is large enough for some serious work or movie watching. The device itself is small enough to be carried around (but not in a pocket though).

Want to know more about the Everun, or UMPC's.
